MY RU4U

Reuse is using an item more than once for the same function or for a second life used for different purpose, or by Reusing to create new shapes. Reducing consumption is difficult as the demand keeps increasing and Recycling is a process involving time and resources to re model or re manufacture, hence both are DIFFICULT. The most viable and one of the cost effective 3“R” of the waste minimization is Reuse.

By taking useful products without reprocessing, reuse helps save time, money, effort and resources, economical, sustainable and offers quality products to people.
I made hypothetical yacht design for a Mumbai (a city known for Hollywood film Slumdog millionaire,8 Oscar award winner) based client who is rich but averse to spending big money for pleasure. ‘MY RU4U’ My ‘Are You For You ?’ (name conceived, to mean MOTOR YACHT OR MY REUSE DESIGN AND REUSED MATERIALS FOR YOU) has a yacht design with standard hull form and structural members which have been used again and again by different owners worldwide, even if the choice of the principal dimensions of the owners are slightly different.

My reuse design manages the sustainability requirement and performance matrix that measures improvement on availability, reliability to yacht yards for reducing overhaul cycle & design iteration cycle.
MY RU4U is designed keeping in mind the green concepts, sustainability, reuse design & reused materials to economize the cost. Lots of efforts were put to repurpose the fit outs in an intelligent manner to avoid visible detection, to save on cost & time. All ancillaries, machinery, fit outs and furniture have been sourced from Alang ship decommissioning yard & Mumbai hotel renovation contracts. I never sacrificed on quality, but insisted the client to use solar/windmills fixtures even if that was an eye sore for him. In the interiors almost 95% starting from curtains, beds, lounge furniture, carpets, cupboards, and mirrors were sourced from 5 star hotel properties. My intention of keeping –walls and ceilings with life size mirrors has a purpose, firstly they were available in plenty at cheap rates from 5 star property, secondly I used only fluorescent low watt star rated bulbs hence they reflected lots of light, thus saving on energy, thirdly it has elegance and sophistication, lastly but not the least these mirrors when looked into, constantly remind ARE YOU FOR YOU or FOR THE PLANET ? thus reminding everyone & him every time to be green conscious with “ Reduce, Recycle Reuse “ in all spheres of his daily life. This is the message I want to convey.

In God’s creation the FOOD CHAIN type natural mechanism occurs where one type of organism becomes a food for another like worms-reptiles-birds-to human & it carries on. Learning this lesson from Nature, I pray for regulatory authority in each country to enforce the commercially manufactured items not be wasted and thrown out after a single use but make it mandatory for repeat reuses to avoid carbon foot print. This project is made for everyone to THINK BIG TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY via REUSE METHDOLOGY” .
